Ok, I have EXACTLY the same problem, but I can't fix it!!! Wonder if you can provide any more help?

Gillsman I don't think I even have a P2 cable from my Graphics card to mobo... is that neccessary or just some cards? Mines in a PCI-E2 (the big blue ones) if that makes a difference?

Thanks.

Sounds like your PSU isn't powerful enough, a more powerful one (Get a brand name one too!) should solve your problem!

I did a online calculation thingy which made it out ok.

All I've got in atm is mobo dvd drive 2fans 2 ram graphics card hdd and media reader.

I really doubt it's PSU as components only "take what they need", and if I press the open tray on the dvd drive it opens, signifying there is wattage to spare.

If the machine powers on but nothing at all displays on the screen it is almost always PSU, regardless of some parts clearly getting power, it is a common trait of a dodgy PSU.

A PC will power on with just the mobo, cpu, RAM, PSU, and GFX card, disconnect everything else to test, all drives, add on cards, power and data leads. Swap RAM around, try alternate sticks.

If it still will not display the post screen then swap the PSU, then mobo.

Ok I was going to do that soon anyway on advise in the thread I started, sorry that was the reason I just replied to the #1 thread, I was just after any insider tips from the previous victim

I did actually start my own one somewhere so now theres two :S

Not to worry I'll try it out as simple as possible (1x ram etc.) and get back to you on it. It better not be to much for the 500W PSU, as I'm only just getting started and I got more gear to pile in...

Does this look to much for 500W?
Mobo /
CPU /
8GB RAM (2x4) /
GFX card /
DVD Drive /
HDDVD Drive
Floppy
Media card reader /
2 x HDD -(one)
2 x chassis fans /
Network PCI

Please note however, that the ones marked are the only components installed presently.

Is this a new build?

Get rid of the card reader and all that ram, lose the drives too, then try.

If not swap the PSU or Mobo (Probably mobo if all this is new kit, they are commonly dead out of the box).

It's that simple.

Yeah all 100% new kit.

I'll strip out tommorrow and try, you mean all the ram? not even leave 1 stick in?
I know it'd work to a slight extent more than it does at the moment but I'd just get 1 long beep and however many short ones to dance to..

Trouble is the swap part.. I don't have a spare PSU or mobo to swap with, nor the money to buy one.

I'd have to be sure which one was wrong and send it back.

Hopefully it won't come to that, I'll try it in it's simplest form and gradually add everything else on, if it suddenly doesn't work with something I'll unplug something else, if still not then it's that device causing the problem, if it does work then I need a bigger PSU.
