Default No Signal form PC

Hello Folks:
I have an Old DELL XPS 410 (~ 10 yrs old) running XP.
Recently the was no signal from the monitor when the PC was powered on. Swapped out the monitor with another one- same problem. We called Dell and they advised replacing the Video Card adapter- we did but still no signal. The latest they are theorizing is that the Motherboard is probably gone.
Any suggestions??
How does one go about diagnosing a problem like this since you can't even get a signal on th emonitor to work with.
Is it even worth it to try to fix this?
Regards and thanks.

Based on what you have said I'd say mobo too, considering the PC is 10 years old you would be better off buying new.

i'd agree with you and dave. the motherboard is dead, or dying.

and i'd have to say no to refurbishing it as well. at 10 years old, it'll be very very tough to find a motherboard for it. typically you'll only see newer ones from maybe 5 years ago at most.

that and 90% of the hardware you have in it is most likely too old to salvage even if you bought a slightly newer one because in 10 years, standards have changed drastically. save what little you can, i.e. peripherals and such, and see if you can custom build your own from parts off the internet. since you're based in north america, i'd STRONGLY suggest taking a poke through newegg.com and browsing for parts. if you like, i and others on this forum will help you build one for cheap, and make you one that's as future proof as possible.

if that's what you want to do, then all you need to tell us is what the intended use is, and what your budget is, and we'll take it from there.

i say that because i wouldn't go and order one prebuilt because they tend to A) come with bloatware, B) have terrible power supplies, and C) aren't built with the best parts for the money you pay.

let us know what you intend to do, and we'll see if we can be of further assistance.
