I just finished building my first computer.

CPU - q6600 intel
GPU - 4870 his
Monitor - 22" acer
Motherboard - p5q deluxe asus
Power supply - 750w pc power & cooling

Everything is assembled, and I tested it - all the lights/fans turn on.
When my computer is not connected to my case, the monitor displays "CABLE NOT CONNECTED"; however, when I do connect, the monitor displays "NO SIGNAL".

I haven't installed any drivers or operating system, just finished screwing in parts and plugging in wires.

I tried this with the HDMI cable, DVI, and VGA - same results each time.

How can I fix this?

Either you do not have everything connected as should be or you have a duff mobo or PSU.

I'm going to open it back up. What do you think is not connected properly?

It's hard to say, no signal means the GFX card is not outputting a signal.

Make sure the GFX card has all the right power to it.

Also try just using one stick of RAM, try just either if you have more than one.

Things like hard drives and CD drives do not cause it, so that leaves a bad PSU, or mobo, not uncommon to be faulty out the box.

The most common cause of this is a dodgy PSU, then the mobo.

If the mobo is lighting up, and the GPU is lighting up and fans are turning on, and the PSU fans are going on, can I eliminate them as sources of problem?

Nope, faulty PSUs commonly power everything up.

What do you mean?

You used standoffs, right?

When my monitor is plugged only into the power there's a message box that says "Cable not connected"

When my monitor is plugged into the power and into my GPU there's a message box that says "No signal"

But no, I did not use standoffs. Could it be shorting out?

Uh, yes. Hope you don't have any motherboard damage.

I was actually mistaken. I do have standoffs in place.
