| Hi there, i am a pc entusiast and i am trying to repair my friend's pc. The pc i am trying fix has the following specifications - chieftec psu 550 W - asus mobo m3a - amd athlon cpu (can't see exact specs i'll explain later) - 2 x 1gb ram dimms - pci xpress 2.0, ati radeon hd3650 gpu, 512 ram - some sounblaster sound card - 2x sata HDD Western Digital Caviar, on mirroring mode - 1x floppy - 1x dvd rw drive The problem of this pc is that the main unit doesn't send any kind of signal to the monitor. Actually it doesn't pass the POST menu. I get two very short beeps, and then a secuence of eigth more similar (short) beeps. I have checked the bios signal beep codes and it appears that it is a "display memory error". Even without the beep code's explanation i was thinking that this would problably have had something to do with the video card... But that was wrong. I replaced the video card with the one i have on my pc, which is a perfectly working ati 4650, and i still get the same beep error secuence. Still no signal on my screen. Any ideas? My main concern is that, the mobo appears to have an on board video card...so i suppose that the mainfraim should have been functional even without an external video card. How come and i get video card errors (according to the beep secuence) if the mobo has an onboard video card? Even if the external video card was malfunctioning the internal one should have automatically taken it's place right? So my guess is that something is wrong with mobo. or the bios. but how can i do anything if i can't connect a monitor? |

| I believe you need to go into bios Advanced Settings and select the graphics controller to use, as primary boot device..... it will not do it automatically, however I can see that being a bit of a problem.

Did you double check all the power cables to the mobo, when fitting a different card ? .... have you got another card you can try ? Did you remove the external card, when plugging monitor into on board card and rebooting .... you never know ![]() If all else fails I guess you could reset the bios on the mobo look in the manual for the jumper position .... this should put it back to default settings.
