When I turn my computer on, the lights on the hard drive come on, it makes a whirring noise and thats it. My monitor says "entering power save mode" and then goes off. Any Ideas, I'm completely useless!

nothing to worry I guess. This power save mode could be turned off on your bios setup.

Can you tell where this noise is coming from?, how many HDD's do you have connected? and are all your fans spinning on your graphics card, cpu, etc

It Makes the same sounds as it always did when i turn it on.but instead of me seeing the screen where i type my password in, it says power saving mode and my monitor turns off. If i press caps lock on my keyboard the light doesn't come on!

Can you get into bios ?

To do so, look carefully when you power up the machine and you should see a message like
Press <DEL> to enter BIOS setup, depending on the bios it might be F2 or ESC.
Try this and see if the system will enter bios and keep the display.

Dont change anything there, just report back.
