Do you know the specs of your PC or the exact make/model ?

As mentioned above, it's likely that a simple bios setting needs to be changed, but we need to know the type of bios you are using, to give you the correct procedure to try this.

Have a look at this page : http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm

It gives all the keyboard commands to enter bios. As you are not sure, try a few out.
Start with DEL F2 F10 ESC and see if they get you in. To be a bit more specific, when you power up the PC, as soon as you hear the sounds of life tap the key repeatedly. Once you hit on the correct key it should take you into bios or set up as it's sometimes called.

If we can achieve this and you can maintain a display, (without your dreaded message), then we have established that your graphics card is not faulty and we can look at bios settings. If not, it might mean your Graphics Card has died.

Sorry to be a pain but originally when I turned my computer on, the monitor turned itself on. But now I have to manually switch the monitor on, I see the power saving message and then it switches itself off. Is this relevant? Sorry I didn't mention this before.

graham, if you could not enter your bios, in order to switch the power saving or reset the bios default settings, there's nothing more i can think of doing man. Try to reboot your system and keep pressing 'del' at the same time. This may generate some beeps, but that's fine. If that doesn't work, try f8. There's others key that could work, if you get a list, try them all to make sure.
It should appear a screen if it works.

When you say reboot my system, do you mean turn it on? and try pressing 'del'. If that doesn't work turn it off then try again with f8? etc etc Thanks again.
