Oh dear
A couple of times yesterday, and a few times this morning, my PC has just gone blank so I've had to switch off and re-start. No blue screen this time, just black screen. This is after I followed all of the advice on my other thread. I think the PC is ready for the knackers yard!!! Any advice on what's the best PCs these days? |

It's a simple thing, but have you checked every cable is plugged in properly? Although it would be a bit of a coincidence that it starts working again after a reboot. Also, have you checked you have all the latest video card drivers?

I dunno what video card drivers are. I have been following the instructions on here for several days, CCleaner, Malwarebytes, anti this and anti that.... and it STILL crashes. I will check about the cables. I think its a serious error on the PC and the only alternative is to buy a new one. It's been nothing but trouble since we bought it a few years back!!!

Do you know which graphics card you have? I could find a link to the latest ones if you do. Also, what are you doing just before it crashes? or can it be at any time?

If i were you I'd invest in a laptop as a primary computer regardless of whether your desktop gets back on track or not.

Now I am getting messages saying "file checking disc C"
"Deleting Corrupt attribute record .... (followed by a number)" "Correcting error in (number) for file" Real networks messages C:\$mft run chkdsk utility I think this PC must be so ingrained with viruses and trogans or whatever, there's no cure apart from getting a new one. |

Have you considered just formatting and reinstalling Windows ?

If you have the Windows Installation Disk, it's just a question of putting the disk in, rebooting and following the screen prompts.
Remember though to back up your data first, as formatting will wipe your Hard Drive. |
