Default PC Not Powering On or Booting

I have a question, my old destop is currently not working, I press the power button and it doesn't turn on. Everything else works, the mouse, monitor, lights goes on, but the hard drive, my system doesnt even start up and doesnt make any sounds... Do you know whats the problem that is causing this to happen?

Hmm... Does it make any beeping noises? Are the cables (in the PC) all properly connected?

Easy answer is that the power supply is dead.

Save dumb things like cables being loose, that's the overwhelming likely scenario. Thankfully, it's only about $35 (yes, CAD!) to get a new one.

Yea, assuming everything is plugged in correctly, the PSU will have gone, like Carbon said, they aren't too expensive, so grab yourself a new one, switch it for the old one, and it should be fine.

It might be possible that your Computer detects the hard disk but not loaded the operating system. Does your PC has dual operating system? If yes than it might be possible that boot loader is corrupted. Else your PC has virus.

That's pretty bad advice, the machine does not turn on so how exacly can it be software or virus related?

My advice is replace the power supply, sounds like that has gone which is very common and will then stop your machine powering on properly.

When replacing the power supply - make sure you get one which is the same rating or better than the one you have at the moment - it may sound obvious but I have seen people in the past replace their 600W PSU in their Dell with a 450W one (just as an example; figures not 100% accurate).
