The Core duo is a totaly new desgin of processor. It was designed for laptops it aint that good. It was redesigned to give it 20% - 30% more performance than the best AMD 64 dual processors and renamed to Core Duo 2. The Core 2 Duo Extream can out perform a pentium 4 at higher Mhz so don't be put off by the Mhz of the Core 2. The Core 2 processors for servers and workstations are called Xeon Woodcrest. I was devoted to AMD till I saw the bench tests for this. Bare in mind though if you can't afford the Extream version it you might get more performance per pound from a AMD 64 FX processor.
In November the Intel Core Duo 2 with four cores will be out. Only one game will be comming out that will make use of those cores. Only highend production software such as 3D rendering, film and sound editing software will make use of this processor. |
