pc starts beeps once, post mem test ok ,reads drives ok then stops with cursor flashing, will not move on .asus terminator p4 xp .checked all connections tryed another hd ,mem, still the same .any ideas welcome ,thinking of getting one of post testers on ebay .

try looking in your motherboard manual for troubleshooting, it should say what the different possible beeps mean. when you find what it says is wrong come back and say, then we can try helping you correct the problem.

Hard drive errors have a habit of stopping a PC right there.

Disconnect them and see if you get further.

When you tried another HDD, did you try booting with a Windows Installation CD ?

Hi,thanks for all replys,when the pc stops it is before I can boot from the cd.Anyway I read some posts and I tried pressing F5 at boot and an option to skip if I pressed F4 came up for about a seccond.After about 3 attempts I got a boot menu . So I boot from the win xp cd ,thanks again steve.

Like I said hard drive have a habit of stopping post in this place, do all your HD's show in the BIOS ok?

CD_Rom can cause issues too if they are messing around so disconnect them and try again, it's trial and error.
