I have a mother board with pentium MMX 233 MHz with 64 Mb RAM.
In the beginning it was not booting at all. Then I increased the 5 volts supply up to 5.27 from the SMPS and it started booting. But it started rebooting when I get a message of "starting ROM DOS".In short booting goes smooth up to that level and then rebooting starts and so on.And this problem also fixes when I raise the supply to 5.5 and it will last for two -three months. At that time you have to adjust voltage again. The question is why it takes 5.5 when it is designed to work on 5.0 volts.Where can the problem lie?Is it a hardware or a software problem? prash email removed. |

I dunno mate, perhaps the power supply is getting too old and not maintaining voltage.

Agreed, for a PC this old it really isn't economical to fix. :)

Dear friends this mother board is not from a PC. it is in a controller of a CNC ( computer numeric control) machine used in sheet metal industry.IT IS EXTRAORDINARILY ECONOMIC IF IT GETS FIXED. though I am not sure that it is because of +5volts; or it just seems so.But it is sure that changing volts(+5) fixes the problem.PLEASE THINK OVER AGAIN AND HELP.SORRY FOR NOT MENTIONING THIS EARLIER. THANKS. Prashsar

Well I did also mention the PSU.Its possible that there is vdroop. That would explain why adding extra voltage helps stability.
