| Hello - I'm currently building my first computer. Originally, I decided to go with this motherboard and GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813188024 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130398 Then the price went up, so I decided to go with this mother and GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131297 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814161247 Now the original motherboard went back to its original price. Should I go with the 1st or 2nd, or one motherboard and one GPU? Thanks. |

| Sorry for the very late reply... But it's likely 1900x1200, but I may go with 1680x1050. |

| I would say the second is better, but Like Carbon said, what resolution is the monitor this is going to be used with? as if it isn't that high, an ATI4850 will be better suited.

EDIT: you posed whilst I was typing etc, with the first resolution, the 4870 is the one to go for, however with the second one, it would probably be better to save your money and get a 4850. My System: First OC

| I dunno Thingie. The GTX 260 is way more competitive now. For $300, might as well go with one of the high end ones. This one is overclocked to 650mhz from 516 core out of the box, has almost identical amount of VRAM, is the 216 core variant, and is pretty powerful. In fact, this same model got reviewed on TechReport, pitted against the 4870 1GB, shows one basic trend: at low res (which is not what you're buying this thing for), the 4870 wins, at 1650x1050 they're tied, and at higher res the GTX 260 wins. It eats less power, and it's cooler at stock (though of course the 48xx cards can be tweaked a bit to fix that). So that's my recommendation now. While the difference is slim, that's really the nature of game benchmarks these days. Far Cry 2 shows essentially no difference between the two cards, but that's at stock on both of the cards and as shown in the TechReport article overclocking makes quite a difference on this one.
