Well the 4870's are known to get pretty toasty but if it's 3 figures then you have an issue.. I think the ATi 4870's hit 85 degrees under load so any higher than that and I'd be a bit pre cautious.

EDIT: I know you're not getting a 4870, used it because I know it's a hot card

From the factory there's no worries. You wont overheat.

EVGA will test the cards thoroughly enough to make sure your card doesn't overheat.

yeah. as far as that card goes, u aint go nothin to worry about with overheating. heck, my laptop gpu hits 100 degrees C and its turns off, (normal under load is 85 or so) but what im saying is that cards when under extreme heat normally shut of the pc before serious damage is done right? well, my lappy does anyway....

At no point did anyone say "SLI sucks", nor "you can't put SLI on a P45", nor asking what res the OP is at. PSU calculators are useless as well. These are infinitely more important.

What you want here is a X3 720, 790X board, 520HX, 4890, some RAM and a better case, as well as a Xigmatek S1283. Scrap the water cooling: air cooling is fine. Not your fault though, I need to do a new thread, one up there is outdated.

alright ill price that out. thanks carbon. why the single 4890 vs the sli'd 260's?

Because SLI sucks. It's poorly supported in most games, it scales poorly, and you'd have to spend another $100 on a 780i motherboard that has data corruption issues and a very hot northbridge. The 4890 offers the best single-GPU performance without hitting diminishing returns.

How about the Cosmos 1000? It has a lot of neat features.

790XT's only difference is that it takes DDR3. Also the 790X has the combo deal so you get it for like $80. Definitely the 790X.
