ok, this is what i plan for my next build. I know the MOBO is a bit expansive, but i have my reasons for it. as for the HDD's i need some help. I chose them because they are known to be extremely fast in real world and large file senerios. but they also have firmware problems from what i hear and you can lose all your data. I need to know if they are a good choice for me or not. if not, what is a substitutes for them. they need to be just as fast as the oens in the link. 1x 1TB, and 2xHHDs that are at least 250GB. any idea's?

My honest opinion.

You would be far better off with this:
http://public.server2.swanmoor.co.uk...gCart.aspx.htm

And I think it is cheaper anyway. You would get a E8500 instead of an E8400, a GTX 280 instead of 260, and faster (and arguably better) hard drives.

But if you don't agree with me, don't want to accept the advice, fine. Just please don't try and tell us why it is better.
I am sure Carbon will agree with me.

I see your list, and it maeks sense, but...

1) i chose the CD/DVD drives the way i did so that i can get the best of both worlds- fast reading and fast writing. you cant really get both in one.

2) the MOBO was chosen for its unique OC features and great expansion slot lay out and reliability.

3) i need 2x 250GB HDD because i dual boot and there are huge adavntages for me when it comes to having 2 different OS on 2 different HDD's and i also need a 1TB HDD for my video editing/games.

however i do like the fact that you were able to put in a better GPU and CPU. I wonder if i can tweek your list a bit...hmmm

how about this?
http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/Pu...Number=9141625
all it needs is 2x 250GB (give or take on the size) and a 750GB to 1TB HDD to go with it.

This really is my last reply on this, you know enough to work stuff out how you want it yourself.

CD Drives - I'm sorry but whatever. I burn probably 100 CDs a month for continuous rolling backups and there is diddly squit difference between any of them. Many 10 years ago there was, but now, nope, just choose the cheapest you can.

Mobo - Again your choice, but actually, the Gigabyte UD3P will overclock either E8400 or E8500 to it's max. Because if you want to push it beyond what the Gigabyte board can manage, then you are going to need watercooling, maybe even phases change or LN.
Unless you purely want a rig for benchmarking and blowing it up, then the board you have specified is wholly unnecessary. And also I dissagree I don't think it is that reliable at all - at the end of the day it is at the cutting edge.

Hard drives - again, your choice, but why 250GB? As far as I see, threee 640GB = 3 OSs on separate drives. And loads of space.

But if not, well get a 1TB drive but accept trashy performance, and high price/GB.

The WD 640GB AALSs are the BEST VALUE AND PERFORMACE drives on the market today.

Oh and also I really don't see what is wrong with partitioning drives.

And if you need so much space for Video Editing, why not purchase it as and when you need it, when it will also be cheaper and drive technology will be better?

Thats me done in this thread.

Alright. well, thanks for the help. I see what you mean about the HDD's now. what i meant to say is that i want at least 250GB on the 2 HDD's. should have clarified that sooner. the reason why i wanted 2 HDD's was because i have very bad luck with HDD's. they seam to failing on my all the time. so i figure if i have 2 OS on 2 different HDD's, i would be safe if 1 of the 2 HDD's died. I would simply just boot up the other HDD. the idea with the 3rd HDD is that all my media/games/special software would go on that, so in the event one of OS HDD's die, i can still access my games/media on the other OS on the other HDD.

if your worried about a drive failing and loosing your stuff, cant you just run the 2 drives in RAID? or am i misunderstanding something (like usual)

OK, I understand that.

But, there is little point in keeping games and stuff on a separate drive, because if the main drive goes, then the games are going to go as well. They will store loads of stuff in the registry and other places, even if you tell them to install on a separate hard drive.

But for media, yeah I can see your thinking.

But I don't think you could access your games from another OS anyway, because you would have to install them twice? They won't add the settings to both registries otherwise.

Whether you want to pay $10 more than a 7200.12 for half the storage space is your perogative. I also wonder why in the world you would buy an open box DVD drive, I suppose of all things to fail it's not the most likely but is not getting any warranty worth $10? The 650TX is a better unit. The Xonar is a better sound card as well, though you could probably get an Omega for that price.

Since this is your 22nd thread on this same build and it's been over a year, I hope you get this soon, for both of our sakes. I don't mind answering questions but this is a bit ridiculous, especially since I've put several high-end systems that are completely fine in the guide.
