| Building a new computer and wondering if these specific parts would be good and which would be better? CPU: AMD Athlon 64x2 6400 AM2 or Intel Core 2 Duo e8400 <-- which? 90mm Aluminum fan HDD: Seagate ST3500320AS GFX: Gigabyte HD4850 w/ Zilman Fan RAM: 4GB Kingston memory kit ( with 64 bit OS) I know i may be missing some things but i need some opinions and criticism on what has been given so far. I will be using this build primarily for work/ games. I'm open to any opinions or suggestions and it would be much appreciated. Thank you. |

| The two processors are in completely different classes, you don't list a lot of vital things some of which depend on each other to evaluate your current lineup (motherboard? PSU?), you don't list a budget or don't link any of the parts so I can't check either where you're buying from or whether the prices are competitive, and I'm not sure what a 90mm aluminum fan has to do with any of this. That in mind, it's kind of difficult to give any feedback without a. overshooting or undershooting your budget, b. giving a ton of suggestions already in the stickied hardware guide and then elaborating on why they are good. First read the sticky, second figure out all your choices on every single thing including the case, third post a budget and those choices.

| If you give us your budget we can help you more. Also, you need to have a motherboard, power supply, case and a DVD drive.

| I suggest you just buy a prebuilt computer.

| Prebuilts are only good value if they are very basic builds, so unless this is the case, I advise against it.

But if he comes back with a decent motherboard and power supply, along with the Intel CPU, then I will eat my words. :)

| Yea, I suppose, but I like to have confidence in people for as long as I can. So, ejl, do you think you will be able to build a PC from components yourself? |
