after receiving advice from various people, i purchased a mobo, cpu and ram package, consisting of a AMD 64 4200 X2 processor, ECS geforce 6100-SM-M2 motherboard, and 1GB DDR2 667MHz memory. due to issues with money, i decided i would try to fit it myself. i have a 400watt psu, 80gb hdd, dvdrw drive an a 128mb graphics card. i believe i have connected everything up correctly, but when i switch on, all i get is a flicker of life, and then nothing. does anyone know what i am doing wrong? thanks

why would you need to pm me? just post it here. Also, you can't PM until you are a CJ member, currently you are a CJ new member, to become a member, just stay around, and post occasionaly, and you will eventually become a member, or you could donate, and become a donator, and be able to PM then.

In My Opinion.

Textbook PSU dead = CPU fan jults on power on.

It could be the mobo too but if everything is definitely connected right the PSU is the cheaper of the two.

when i connected all my cables to the board, the ATX and ATX12V were easy, the ide, the dvd drive, etc, but the front panel header gave me some problems. i was unsure which colours were classed as pos an neu......are the whites neu, and the coloured ones pos?

In order for a PC to power on all you need is:

PSU Mobo Power and a graphics card and the front of case power switch to mobo.

Nothing else is needed, disconnect all the drives power and data, ignore the front case led's and remove any sound or network cards and try that.

If it still doesn't work it is PSU or Mobo. Period.
