What does your base unit do when you power it on? Lights, noises?

It is a faulty monitor then, but the chances are, there won't be anything you can do to repair it, monitors aren't simple things to fix, and are not designed for people to try. Also, it would cost more to get someone to fix it than to buy a new monitor probably.

+1 If the machine works fine with another monitor then it is a monitor fault and it is probably cheaper to replace it than repair it these days, monitors are pretty cheap bought from an etailer like www.ebuyer.com
