Best bet would be to send the model numbers of both laptops so we can establish the better laptop overall.

Not really links would be better as the ones you listed are different to what you first asked about, but from what you have listed it looks very like you are going to be buying these off Dell!/maybe

..y'know what? if you gave us a budget, we could probably find you a nice laptop from a respected website. that might help even more than posting the specs of the machines. i'd rather help you find the best one you can get for your money than help you pick between two unknown models.

do you care if it's got vista?

well...either way, here are two decent laptops for about 750. not extremely overbudget, and the extra cash is definitely not wasted.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834147525

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834146303

both models come with an intel core 2 duo 1.5ghz or higher. and both support 4 gigabytes of memory. not that you could use it all with only a 32 bit OS, but the room is there. you can easily put about 3 gigs and still be safe if you felt like it.

the first model has a 160 gig 5400 rpm hard drive. the second has 120 gigs.

but the second one is of higher quality. lenovo is a top notch Chinese company that was working with IBM for a while. they finally had enough know-how and cash to make their own company. and what i've seen is very nice.

HP is...mediocre to me. i dunno. you can feel free to pick. they're both very similar so it either comes down to hard drive size, or company quality.

if you want to nit-pick, then take a look at the specs each one offers and then see whichever one you like best. if you like to download a lot of music, maybe the HP would be better since it comes with a huge hard drive.

but like i said. up to you. those are the two i would've picked in that price range. the extra 50 dollars gets you a dual core processor. lower than that and you start seeing a lot fewer models coming with a dual core.
