Default Random Freezes, Not Sure of the Suspect!

Hi guys. You may know my custom built PC has been nothing but trouble since I got the parts with wrong part numbers sent out twice and wrong parts ordered but it all got going eventually!

Now however, I have been running an overclock on my CPU to about 2.6GHz from 2.33 GHz, doesn't seem too taxing to me. I upped the memory to 860 MHz from 800 MHz and all was well, speed went up more, games played well, I had a big ol' grin. Recently I was watching a video via VLC. About 75% of the way into the movie my whole screen went a pink colour with green bits in it and my computer became unresponsive. Tried the video again and the screen went black and PC was unresponsive yet again. I've reset my overclock back to factory thanks to a clear CMOS button and all seems to be well but I've not stressed my PC much.. Running Prime 95 on all threads testing loads of RAM at the moment and my GPU is scaled WAY back to 550 memory and 500 core.

Any ideas what was causing the problem? Windows would boot up fine and run alright but I'm not sure if I've wrecked something like the graphics card, RAM or CPU with an overclock. My GPU was overclocked with a profile on the ATi control centre but I assumed it would be within safe parameters to do it there..

I'll run the video again and see if the problem occurs once more with factory settings, may just be a corrupt video and it's sending my PC off on one..

Any news? It's unlikely you broke anything, but..

Re-installed the ATi drivers and seems to have worked, only crashed once twice since, one on an oc, the other watching BBC I player.. I'll do some heavy diagnostics if it happens again

Oh man had exactly the same problem, my screen went pink when looking through some pages on the internet,
the only thing on my my pc that was o/c at the time was my cpu, so def cpu at fault,
set it back to factory settings and all has been fine so far and have tried a little o/c with good results so far ( 1 or 2 freezes)and am just hoping the cpu throttled back (reason for pinkness)and did no lasting damage to itself

I tend to be the least lucky person ever.. Played GRID at full tilt earlier and there was no lag for 99% of it so I reckon all is alright..

Hopefully it did THEN throttle back and preserve itself,
am going to try to get my o/c back soon, but first going with another clean of the fans and also a re-apply of thermal paste for the cpu
