Well, sadly enough, its happening to me again. I bought a new PSU thinking it was due to the computer not receiving enough power, but now it looks as though thats not the case.
It restarted about 5 minutes ago, when I tried to Alt-Tab out of Halo: Combat Evolved. Now I'm at a complete and utter loss. I have a good PSU, a genuine copy of Windows XP Professional, all the needed drivers, no viruses, good RAM.... everything is how it should be. But it still doesn't work. Does anyone know what could be causing this? Thanks, from a sad, sad Insomnia. |

Dammit.
![]() Sorry to hear that fella. Does it happen running at peak? or at idle? During any specific activity/application you're running? Everything in Power settings set to 'off' or 'never' ? If you haven't already please remove everything (unplug power or physically remove) you don't absolutely need for boot.

It seems to happen generally when I perform a "new" task of some kind. I can be running a program, such as my Halo server or a World Community Grid piece of data (which makes the computer run at 100% CPU capability) and it won't crash. It usually just happens when I open a game, close a game, Alt-Tab out of a game or start some kind of new process. It doesn't seem to matter what application I'm using, but it seems to happen more in Halo then anything else.
What do you mean by "Power Settings"? I'll try pulling out my RAM and my old 80GB hard-drive in a while and see if it fixes anything. If that doesn't work, I'll have to run MemTest86 and some kind of hard-drive diagnostic software overnight to see if it picks anything up. |

Breakthrough!
It may be that changing the resolution was having some kind of effect on the computer, causing it to restart. My brother had the idea of changing every single app to a single resolution, and seeing if it helped; and it looks as though it has! Maybe due to the fact that I have an SLi configuration, changing to resolution was maybe "confusing" the computer, or some such thing, causing it restart. I said how it usually happened while opening an application, closing an application, Alt-Tabbing to the desktop and back, or changing the resolution and it is at these times that the resolution changes, due to the fact that the resolutions between the game and desktop are different. Who knows why it happens, but it looks as though it may be fixed. |

Well, I've done a full system re-install, and downgraded my Forceware drivers to the ones that came with my graphics card. All looks to be going well, after all this time...
I'll provide another update if something goes wrong again. Thanks goes out to Alex for providing support with this issue. |
