I had a Pc built about 6 months ago consisting of:
1 gig ram
An AMD athlon64 x2 4000+
a nvidea 8500 gt graphics card with 256mb on board cashe,,,

And every time i try to play either settlers rise of an empire or medieval total war the computer will run fine for half an hour then all of a sudden the graphics will lock up then the monitor will turn off with the message "no signal" but the sounds ect from the game are still playing

any help people?

just a feeling, but have you cleaned your computer lately, abit of compressed air to get rid of the bunnies, could be overheating

try taking off the case and have another razzle on the game, get some air in there

just a thought

its done it since it was brand new. plus i do keep the comp fairly clean thats how i blew my last one over heating with the dust.
the place we bought it from said i simply needed the latest drivers, but as i said that hasn`t helped. And all they try to do now is sell me more hard ware.
I`m wondering if maybe a different graphics card might be the answer
posibly one of the newer nvidea series 8 ones?

yeh i don't know what else to suggest

personally id ask the guy to exchange the card says its knackered

i would also exaggerate say it does it during the desktop aswell

i know its not the best advice in the world, but if its been built for you then the guy should have given all the juice etc it needs

i have the 8600gt, it will serve you well, good card!

The other thing some one was asking about was the PSU, its got a 500w psu running in it should that be providing enough juice? or should i up grade?

Moved to general hardware.

The reason it's happening is because of the card Ian. Total war is very gpu intensive. The card can't hack it. Simple as.

The rest of the spec is fine, although you might want to think about 2gb ram if it's a gaming build.

The psu is also ok from a wattage point of view.

See your other thread as well regarding a new card as I've responded in there.

Thank you very much good sir, i was planning on having another gig of ram stuck in when i sorted out why i couldn`t play the game.

And sorry for starting in in here but i wasn`t sure if it was a software conflict or hardware or what.
