Sounds like a blown power supply, even dead ones will power leds but not the full system. They commonly go after power cuts/surges.

Thanks Hybrid i thought that might be the problem but is it repairable and at what cost ,and would that be the reason the monitor doesent work. as you will realise i,m a complete novice so any advice would be most welcome.
cheers Les.

The monitor only comes on when it gets a signal from the base unit, dead base unit = no display. Yes it is repairable, you need to have the power supply swapped. Its quite straight forward but if in doubt get a professional to do it. I'm sure the are some guides online for replacing it.

cheers Hybrid.
the good news is my monitor now powers up but shows the message unattached cable , could this still be the power supply at fault.
regards Les.
