Default Restarts by itself (once so far) and BSOD

hi guys, hi alex hows it going?

i never got my pc sorted, it's on the shelf now for a while. i will deal with it when i have the strength.

i got a new comp for my brother however, it's been great for a couple of days but now i'm having a few teething troubles with it.

last night it got sort of confused (wouldn't open the dvd tray when i put a dvd in) and then restarted itself without warning.

today i have had several blue screen crashes (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL).

I was wondering if this was due to overheating, i installed everest home to see the temps (degrees C):

Motherboard: 43
cpu: 45
gpu: 63
maxtor: 42

i don't know what hte temps should be though, are these too hot?

fan speeds from everest are:
cpu: 3245 rpm
northbridge: 5625 rpm

the mobo has an nvidia chipset and the pc came with nvidia firewall.
I have read bad things about nv firewall, maybe it's causing the problems?
is it a hardware firewall? can it be uninstalled?.

the specs are:
MSI P4N sli mobo, nvidia nforce4 sli intel edition chipset
Pentium 4 640 3.2
2gb ddr2 ram
geforce 7500le graphics card
running xp pro sp2

There are 2 fans, the intel fan over the cpu and a smaller fan right underneath it.

thanks in advance for any light you guys can shed, cheers buchanan

edit, theres another fan:

its a gaming case with a see through window and theres a fan in ther middle of the window

when i opened the case it was not plugged into the board, should it be?
i will email the seller and ask him too

i tried plugging it into the board but it didn't work (tried it in 2 places i could see)

also the psu is 450 watt i think

cheers,

another couple restarts and blue screens

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL is usualy driver or ram related have you installed any new drivers or ram?
Yes I think the onboard firewall can be disabled in add/remove programs, its called nvidia forceware firewall or something similar
Also those temps are a bit hot, try cleaning the fans with a toothbrush is there is any dust on them

thanks alot

nice

it's shut down the last ime i tried ok,

i'm more concerned with the bsod's and restarts, anyone think nvidia firewall is the prob or running too hot (blasted the fans and case out with compressed air but it was so clean anyway only got a bit of dust out, temps are same or bit higher, pretty much same)

Did you turn the firewall off?
Do so because they are supposedly pure rubbish anyway and I have heard of people having issues with them before
Report back if that doesn't work and we can begin testing your ram

Edit: please just edit your post if nobody has replied, saves me having to merge them all the time, I will see your post anyway, no need to bump it

The original one is ok now, the posts you make are on a timer so you will only be able to edit them a certain amount of time after the original post

ok,

i uninstalled nvidia firewall, then later decided to uninstall the whole nvidia network access manager which the firewall was a part of, and i was pretty pleased (when i started utorrent it gave a message that nvidia firewall was shady and had serious bugs, this message still came up after the firewall uninstall, but was gone with the network access manager uninstall).

a couple of days and no bsod's and no restarting on its own, until today.

i just ran pcmark05, had checked my results online and resumed surfing when my wireless connection disconnected, i right clicked to repair and the pc shut down on me.

many times this has happened when i tried to safely release the usb wireless adapter in the past few days (among other random restarts).

disappointed not to have sorted it, was going to give it a few more days and then let you know it was all good, any ideas?

cheers
