just tried to shut down, it didn't, it restarted again to bsod with BAD_POOL_HEADER this time.

then went to the black screen (after i pressed reset button) where you choose to start normally or from last known good configuration, i chose last know good config.

Have done a google on this BAD_POOL_HEADER seems to be a driver issue particularly wireless.As you've bought it secondhand with XP installed it is probably a good idea to get it fully patched and update all the drivers.Go to this site http://secunia.com/software_inspector/ and run the check. It's worth downloading the full app and running that later but this should give you an idea of what's up to date.

Looking at the date of that article I think as I said make sure XP is fully patched, it seems to be an early issue and if your man has used an old copy that could be your problem
