Default A revolution thinking on future personal computers

What will be our personal computer in the future? That will be the same size of current laptop but it will be much lighter and thin. Why? Because the computer will have no keyboard, no power suppler, no hard disk, no CD or DVD driver and no network card, the battery will be smaller and efficient with a mounted solar energy charger and a simple operating system. So we would like to talk about its functional components and its operations.

How will we be able to do it? Yes, with the wireless broadband and large capacity of RAMs, we will build such a computer easily.

How will the computer work? Well, let us talk it component by component.

Input:
There will be no physical keyboard and mouse. This will reduce the 5% weight of the computer. The keyboard will be visualized on a touchable screen. Whenever your two fingers touch on the screen, the keyboard will be displayed until there are no keyboard activities for one minute or two. That is it; we will not be allowed to have one finger typing! In addition, we will not need the keyboard all the time, as a voice detector will do typing while we are talking. On the other hand, visual mouse will be the same as we are using with the touch screen. The visual mouse will enable us to do most operations except typing.

Output:
The screen will be touchable with stereo speakers. It will be thinner than the current LCDs.

Power supply:

Power supply will be the high efficient battery that will constantly be charged with a solar panel mounted on the back of the screen. The normal electricity supplier will still be possible used for the computer and battery charge.

Storage:
There will be no need for the hard disk that will reduce another 5% weight of the computer too. Everything will be stored in the high capacity RAM temporary and data will be sent back and restored in a host server via wireless broadband connection.

Computer unit:
There will be a revolution changes on the current design. This change is called broadband computing with the help of high capacity of RAM.

Operating system:
The Operating system used on the computer will be simpler as it will have no need to manager hard disk, keyboard and mouse. The device it manages will be only the screen and the wireless broadband connector.

Applications:
All applications will be downloaded from the application server with broadband connection. Because we have such a high speed Internet connection, the time of access to an application will be no difference in from the hand disk or from the application server. The executable program will be store in the RAM until there is no more space for another application.

Here is your future PC, How cool it is? What do you think?

im saying that this is more present then future, with the exception of the wireless server storage thing but im sure that google is going to come out with that any day now

hhhmm no hard drives and all servers?

seems to me that we are becoming more vulnerable to server errors and even privacy

id rather keep a hard copy on my hard drive, although it ain't a hard copy as such until i print it out, im sure some of you understand

More discussion;

1. None will be able to read your files because these files will be encrypted and decrypted in your computer only. Also we have used Internet banking anyway and we have known the risks associated with Internet banking are minimum.

2. The computer won’t need to work under the Sun, the battery will keep working for at least 8 hours without charge because the computer will consume much less power than the current laptop. The battery will be charged once the solar panel is exposed to the light.

3. You will still be able to type with the visual keyboard.

Are you not making the same mistakes as the Sci fi film makers did in the 60s?. All their predictions for future space craft etc. used materials that they knew about then. A new discovery in technology could allow systems that we can not envisage at present.

I'm curious as to how far into the future squaressolutions see's this happening?

If you're saying around 50 years then I'd say ok..............but then I'd point you to Mcbee's post.

If you're saying 5 years then I'd say no way. It takes that long to R&D a new cpu architecture.

Solid state hdd's are still in their infancy and still have inherent performance problems (write speed for one), and they've been talked about as going mainstream "soon" for what? 3 years? 4 years?

Touch screens will have to be a lot more reliable, as will internet security (on that point, and taking into account SS's initial post: Big Brother anyone?)

How about living cells, being utilised for memory and storage ?

This would put a whole new meaning to the word Virus
