Default Screen freeze

Just built my new computer. Every time I try and play WoW the screen freezes and I have to bring up the desktop. The GPU has power cause the fan is spinning and the monitor is plugged into the VGA slot. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Thanks in advance

have you got all the latest patches/drivers?

Is the GPU definatly got the right power connectors going to it?

Does this happen with any other game?

Default Screen freeze

Its a new setup so I installed the drivers last night from the disk. Just downloaded the drivers again from their website and restarted the machine but still no joys. The power cable is definitely connected properly as the fan is running an there is a little LED on the MoBo next to the PCIE slot that lights up when a device is detected.

I just installed Warcraft 3 but it causes problems too. It takes a couple minutes to load, during this time my music cuts out and the screen goes black. It also goes black for a couple minutes between the menu screen and the Blizzard logo at the start of load up. Once the game actually loads up it plays for a few seconds then freezes.

Im pretty stumped with this one, any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Right Im getting a wee bit wound up now. Thats the third time I've installed the drivers and still no luck. Going back to your previous questing Thingie2 about the power cables...

The PSU came with several cables marked PCI. Its a six pin connector at both ends and one end has an additional 2 pin connector. At first I didnt think this had any place in my card but maybe Im wrong?

Also, if I have installed the drivers more than once without deleting the previous copies could this cause hang ups?! Someone pleasae help me, Im losing it!!

WoW is a cpu hog, Are you using the lowest settings on WoW and did you need to apply the thermal paste yourself or did it come pre applied when you built your computer?

Thanks for the response.

The card I am running is GeForce 8800GT.

I have a Intel Core 2 Duo E6850, Conroe Core. I used AS5. The system temps are running fine it probably helps having the 240mm fan blowing right over it

Thanks for the help

is there only the 1 power connector on the 8800GT? I had a feeling there was 2, if there is, both need a power lead, but if there is only 1, it should then be nothing about the power that is wrong (unless your PSU isn't pumping out enough juice) And is WOW is a CPU hog, try reducing the resolution and detail settings, see if that makes any difference.

Fixed it!!

It was a faulty power cable, lucky the PSU came with two cables!!

Thanks you for your time and your advice
