hello to all ,

Yesterday at about midnight I turned my computer on to finish some work i had been working on earlier. But as the xp login screen approched the whole system restarted, this immediatly made me panic and i tried again but all it did was get to that same point and restart.

Although i was unable to solve the problem by selecting last known good configuration I was able to access safe mode. I spend about 4 hrs backing all my stuff up to dvd - the computer seems to be much slower in this mode..but that is sort of expected.

Once i was content I have all my important files backed up i decided to try using a restore point ( it was only then i realised that this does not erase data )
This managed to solve the problem.

I am still unable to find the cause though .
Here is what i know.

It seemed to be triggered when i swtiched my modem and router off and then turned it back on to reconnect - this caused it to restart on two out of 3 attempts.

I got a PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA blue screen when i set the computer not to restart on system failure.

This is associated with installing new hardware or software - Iv not put anything on lately do i dont think thats it.

It could also mean a problem with RAM - i dont think this is the case either as i was always able to access throgh safe mode.

these error are logged as mindump files - if anyone understands them i would really appreciate if you could look throught them - not sure where they are or i would attach.

Threre are also errors in the event viewer a few are

Been there many times, story of Windows' life. If you are really concerned about it you could look for updated drivers for all your hardware (particularly your modem if it is USB or your network card if it is LAN), also run

sfc /scannow

from the command line. Also you could reinstall Windows for peace of mind. But chances are whatever you do this will happen again.
