hi, long story short ive had this pentium 4 computer for a few years and its allways been slow, its only reciently that ive noticed that my pentium 3 is faster so i now know that its a big problem.

ive dismissed this as a ram shortage, virus or background task but ive now noticed that my cpu has only 128kB of cache opposed to my pentium 3's 512kB and the moddern 2 - 8MB. i also read that the early celerons were slowed down by their lack of cache and i think its the same with me.

could someone confirm that this is the case and that an upgrade to a cpu with a higher cache will resolve the problem so my mum can play the sims 2 :D

if it helps heres the cpuz screenshot

oh.. :(

i haz 256mb ddr ram and internal graphics. u said before that 256 wasnt enough but i temporally upgraded the ram to 1gb and it made little difference. can the internal graphics really be slowing it down that much? i tried to put an old graphics card in it but the agp slot was incompatible so i couldnt test it.

256mb Ram is not enough to run XP, especially as you have on board graphics and sound ? eating into this.
Celerons are slow, but Ram is your problem here.

terning off drivers like printers and fax drivers can speed pc performance
i would recommend disabling all drivers and programs that you dont use
do be careful as windows still need certain drivers that you dont use
a search on google will help you on how to do this if you want to

my socket a 2600+ xp runs alot faster now due to doing this
there is loads of ways to speed the slow pc up but this one helps alot
also delite FONTS helps boot up time just leave some you want

Get a gig of RAM and it will be 1000% better.

256mb is causing a massive bottleneck.
