My brother has this really budget PC that has been working fine until he got a new monitor. When he plugged that in, his PC gave out. Everything seems fine until the hard drive comes to boot. The message
"Disk boot failure Insert recovery CD to continue" shows up and the system refuses to boot. Upon entering an XP CD, the system does the whole blue setup screen thing before saying "No hard drives detected" (Still gives me options to install windows on no partitions but that's MS being crap). I'm not sure on the system specs but I know the following (Cos I made it..) Pentium DC E2200 1Gb (2x512Mb) Samsung DDR2 ATi Radeon HD2400 Biostar motherboard (No model number) 350W PSU (No brand name to remember) 250Gb SATA Toshiba HDD 160Gb SATA Maxtor HDD Sony DVD/RW Win XP, all updated and dandy (Apart from it doesn't work) |

Sounds like the HDD's out, does it show in the BIOS?
I think you'll find Toshiba and Maxtor HDDs aren't the best :p

Well the toshiba is unused, brand new today so it does work. Not 100% sure of the condition of the Mator one though.
Not sure if they show in BIOS, getting my brother through BIOS is like getting a car through a letterbox. Thinking it could be the southbridge problem on a cheap ass mobo or the cables bust since he's been fiddling round with it |
