during finding out about upgrading my HDD which you on here have helped, i found a number of videos on youtube and the person in the video was handling computer circuit boards, in particular the motherboard, and wearing a type of anti static strap so that he was grounded saying that it's important when handling circuit boards but never said why it was important, anyone know the reasons?

Static electricity, that can build up on your body, is harmful to computer components. Wearing the anti-static strap gives the electricity a path to ground away from any components. If you have ever gotten a shock from a motor car after getting out and touching the door that is from static electricity.

Because static electricity can kill a component. Be it a motherboard, dimm or graphics card.
