Default Something that's always bothered me.

I've always wanted to know, can manufacturers tell if you've overclocked a product and damaged it. If you were to fry your GFX card, or CPU, which i'm sure would be a challenge in itself, and sent it back would they refuse to replace it due to overclocking?

Some, not all, manufacturers will refuse to service a part damaged by overclocking. It depends on the manufacturer and the part, some high-end motherboards and graphics cards are an exception to the rule.

I thought that, but i was wondering that if you sent say your GFX to its manufacturer would they be able to tell the damaged caused was by overclocking.

I've not bothered overclocking at the moment, waiting til i get some more decent cooling, and might shimmy up to a E8400 at some point.

Depends. Are we talking "help I bumped up the voltage way too high bzzzzzzt" or "I overclocked a month ago to a ridiculous setting with bad cooling and it died due to heat"?

Neither! I havent actually overclocked my computer, I just wanted to know how the worked out how much voltage went through a chip that is now fried.
