Heyy guys
Just spec'ed up a pc for a friend who wants a new system, his 'brief' was a fast system, that would play games reasonably well, and look okay on his 42" TV (the lucky sod). Would like a bit of feedback on the setup Ive chosen. CPU - C2D E8400 Board - Gigabyte EP45-UD3P Memory - OCZ Gold 800MHz 4GB (2x 2GB) PSU - Corsair VX 450W Case - Antec 900-2 (he likes that case, despite my efforts to persuade him otherwise) GPU - 4850 or 4870 (like some advice which is better buy and what model would be better aka XFX or Asus etc) HDD - 640GB Western Digital Black Optical - SOme generic thing CPU cooler - Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Advice Welcome :-) |

X3 and 790X saves around $70, use that money to get a 4890 if the 42" TV is 1080p. CPU cooler's going to be kind of useless, get a Xigmatek. Also he's going to hate that case but whatever, I guess let him make his own poor choices haha. Rest looks fine.

okayy cheers, will look in the X3 and board then.
I know you recommend not to get a antec 900 in your hardward guide, but am just wondering why, the reviews online are actully pretty good, if it is a bit expensive.. |

also, forgot to add to the last one, how well with the X3 and appropriate board overclock? (idea being to by a lower speed and overclock up to higher speed one, thus saving money!)

I don't know Carbon's answer, but as an ANTEC 900 owner, I think it's kind of cramped and difficult to work in. I have a DVD player/burner and two HDD's and there ain'ta gonna be no mo go in there unless I remove a fan. And not even then because the bottom ones won't fit because of the video cards. The wires from the on/off -reset, (or maybe the headphone, microphone) just BARELY make it from where they are connected to the case to where they plug into the MoBo. "Neat" cable management is impossible.

The 900 is a poor case because it is not a case, it is a giant steel box. There are no features other than 'is heavy' and 'holds parts'. The reviews online are either from a date where it was the best case on the market (2007) or idiots, to be honest. And I've found most people love the case when they first get it then hate it afterward, and guess when people usually review cases? Right when they get them. Cable management is hard, it's cramped, and a modular PSU is a must. Even the Centurion 5, despite being less than half the price, has infinitely more features. For the price of the 900 you can get a P180/P182.
