Strange beeping noise

Hey! Ive have been putting a new (well old but new for this pc) graphics card into my mothers pc and i also put in some RAM. The RAM is the correct type and the Graphics card fits into the slot perfectly.
The problem occurs when i turn the pc on, straight away after pressing the power but a there is a beep which continues to beep every 5 seconds or so annd the pc doesnt start. Ive fitted graphics cards and RAM into pcs before and never had this problem. Does anyone know what it might be?
Thanks for any help, Sam

Did you connect the extra power connector to the new card?

Also, all of us occasionally need to re-seat RAM and cards.

As far as i no the card doesnt come with an extra power supply, at least i didnt need one when it was inside my pc, Would it matter that i unconnected a lead going into the hard drive and put it back in again?

Make sure it is in again correctly, could be the cause. If you get as far as the BIOS screen you can see if the HDD is available.

Doesn't sound as if it is the graphics card then unless it is just incompatible with the motherboard? Is it AGP?

If you are still having problems, try removing the new Ram and refitting the old.

My guess would be it's a Ram issue.

When you say the Ram is the right type, how did you verify this ?
What is the Ram you fitted and what mobo is it ?

I'm pretty sure it's power to the gfx card, either it needs a 2nd connector or the PSU isn't pumping out enough juice.

1 short beep norm means everything is ok but if your not getting anything on screen it means either a ram or graphics problem,i would try refitting your old ram and card and boot the pc, if alls fine then replace one component, if you get the beeps again then you know which one is causing the problem
