Hi, I have a Asus G1s Laptop that I am thinking about trading away for a desktop computer. I have an offer, but am trying to figure out if I would be lossing money by trading dor this desktop. Here are the specs the guy gave me:
amd 64x2 5200 cpu OC to 3.0ghz
6gb ram
150gb WD Raptor 10000 rpm Hard drive
DVD DL burner
EVGA 9800 GTX Video Card
650w Antec PSU
ThermalTake Soporano Rs 101 Case

Do you guys think it would be worth the trade?

thanx

I don't know how old your G1s is. New I'm seeing them from about $1100 bucks. You could build the desktop with those specs for under $600. What type of OS does the desktop have/ if it's not a 64 bit system it won't see or use all 6GB's of RAM. The CPU on the desktop isn't even carried by Newegg anymore. What about a monitor? Is he giving you that or do you have to buy one. 150GB's of Hard drive fills up pretty fast, I have a Raptor, and it was filled up in no time. LOL My 300gb Velociraptor is filling up pretty quick as well, but that's mainly because I've started editing videos.

Personally I don't care for laptops, but unless you bought yours when they first came out with the G1s, it doesn't look like a very good deal to me.

The laptop is about 1 year old, I got it when they were closing them out at bestbuy. I am just tired of not being able to do anything with this laptop as a upgrade, the GPU is already a ghost...lol the info I gave in the first post is all the info this guy gave me.

Yeah, those specs are pretty bad.

Yeah, I looked at the specs and wondered if the GPU was upgradable. I know very little about laptops. Later on today you should get some responses by folks who know a ton more than I do.........

EDIT: LOL and there was one of them, Carbon, we posted at the same time........

Stick the laptop on ebay, and use the money to build a system yourself, the spec on the trade you've been offered is pretty outdated now.

And i know what you mean, laptops are extremely limited in upgrade capabilities, whereas a desktop (primarily one you've designed and built yourself) can be made to your exact needs, and easily upgradable if those needs change.
