| When you work on your computer, are you standing/sitting on carpet? That is conductive and could cause a short; try to work on surfaces such as wood, tile, etc if possible. Also, you want to touch your case while it is grounded, to discharge any electricity, prior to working on the PC. Whenever you leave the PC and come back to it, touch the case again. Also, make sure that your computer is not plugged into the wall. Your PSU being disconnected from your computer will ensure that no power is flowing. You can discharge the capacitors significantly, by hitting your POWER switch/button several times with your PSU unplugged. That will also help avoid the issue. I follow the above, and I never (cross my fingers) had a problem with a board going bad due to static. Also, try to use an anti static bag or cloth to lay the computer on, and any peripherals while working on it. Shorts due to static build up are rare, but are possible with higher amounts of static buildup in our electron filled body.(you know....when you shock yourself and it actually hurts!) Hope this helps. :) |

| Actually, it's better to keep it plugged into the wall. Touching the PSU metal or case will be relatively useless without a convenient ground, which the mains provide. Just keep the switch off.

| You are correct, my mistake. I can't believe that I said to make sure it is grounded, and to unplug it at the same time. I need sleep. :) |

| Yeah, leave the mains lead in so you are earthed and just touch the case frequently...

| Wear a tee or roll your sleeves up too. Because that way I find myself touching the case or PSU indeliberatly, like say you're plugging something into the mobo, you're reaching down into the case, and the liklihood is at least one arm will be touching the chassis, as long as theres no sleeve on your arm
