Hi,
I decided to take the plunge and build my own computer but it seems like I've hit a brick wall! I've connected the hardware. The motherboard is Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L. I have a SATA harddrive, and an IDE DVD writer rom. I have a cable running from the SATA to the Harddrive, and SATA power connector. I have a cable running from IDE to the DVD writer and the four pin connector.. However, when I go into BIOS, and set the boot priority to CD-ROM, and put the Windows XP CD in, I get an error "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" When I got into the Standard CMOS here is what I see: IDE Channel 0 - Master [Samsung HD501LJ] IDE Channel 1 Master [None] IDE Channel 2 Master [None] IDE Channel 3 Master [None] IDE Channel 4 Master [None] IDE Channel 4 Slave [None] Why is the Harddrive showing up under IDE even though it's SATA? Do I need to plug in a jumper and set the SATA harddrive to slave? I thought there was no need. I've set the DVD writer to Master and I have no idea what could be causing the problem :( Any ideas? |

SATA is treated as on a "IDE channel" by the BIOS, don' worry about that.
The problem you are having is that is that the CD drive isn't showing, therefore it's not booting from the CD, therefore giving you a error when you attempt to install Windows that you don't have a OS on the disk. You need to check your cables for the CD drive.

set the jumpers on the hard drive to single drive or master of single drive. And if it doesn't have something along those lines set it to master.

SATA drives have no jumpers.
