You can't record if the PC is off.

How can you watch tv if the computer is off?

Same problem, the TV card allows you to watch TV and that is powered by the Power Supply Unit in the Computer. The only way you can watch TV on your computer screen is if the whole PC is on I'm afraid.

If the problem is noise it maybe worth looking for a super silent PSU and CPU fan. That way you wont get the noise of your Computer disrupting your TV (if noise is the problem this is). But it might not be worth it for the difference.

Its like trying to watch a tv without plugging it in.

Can i ask why you want to do this? Is it because of noise or something?

i want to do this as i want to use my compouter as a recording alternative, and nothing else really. i dont want to watch tv through it, jus record the tv. because my tv has built in freeview, i have no way of recording off freeview so i thought this would be a good alternative.

so are you looking to put a tv card into your pc to watch and record tv?
or do you want to route your freeview signal from the box through the pc to record then back to the tv to watch?
as you have changed what you want three times so far
