hi

i have a desktop with an asrock p4vt8+ motherboard
and a p4 3.0ghz processor

i am having a problem with my computer. i turn it on and all the fans and hard drive spin up indicating its on, but nothing comes up on the screen (the light stays amber) the hard drive light is permenantly on. it is not the graphics card as i checked it with a spare, its also not the psu as i checked it with a spare, im pretty sure that its not the hard drive as no bios is comming up on screen.

does anyone known what the problem could be?

Thanks Jon

Was it ever working? Did the hardware get changed?

Does the CAPS LOCK light toggle on and off when you repeatedly press CAPS LOCK? (if it does then I suggest your monitor or cable is acting up)

Otherwise, can you easily unplug all the IDE and SATA cables from the motherboard (note where they come from!) and remove any PCI cards except the graphics card. Does it get to the BIOS page with a picture on your screen?

That's good, there's been some shifting about so there's a potential explanation. I hate it when unjustified things happen.

If we can assume something moved then we need to put it back where it came from. The wost thing is the motherboard shifting and one of the holding screws shorting since it involves dismantling back to an empty case.

How do you fancy dismantling back to an empty case and putting it back together a bit at a time, checking you can get to the BIOS screen after each addition? The big plus is you get to clean out the dust as you go.

Hi

UPDATE

Ihave unplugged all ide drives and floppy and sata.
I have tried swapping the ram around and useing them individually. there are no beeps from the comp when turned on and keyboard lights only illuminate briefly when i turn on the psu.

Any further ideas?
