Hi, I have been looking at some upgrades for my PC, and wondering whether I will get any significant performace improvements to justify the money.

My current setup:
Core 2 Duo e8400 2.61ghz
Nforce 680i lt sli mb
2gb Corsair XMS2 1333mhz mem
MSI Nvidia 9600gt o 1gb gpu

I'm looking to spend £200, and thought I'd change the CPU, Motherboard(1156socket) and RAM(DDR3), I was thinking of starting with the Intel Core i5 650 3.2ghz which I'll get for about £110, not sure what memory and mothboard I'll get out of the remaining £90.

So, the question is, is it worth upgrading?
If so am I getting the right CPU?
What motherboard and ram should I get(it needs to be ATX)

If it was me I'd leave the motherboard as it is and get the best quad core CPU that I could afford, another 2 GB of ram and spend the rest on a graphics card. You can get a q6600 for about £60 on eBay which is a 2.4ghz quad core, 2GB of ram is probably £20 which leaves you £120 to get a better graphics card.

Thanks for your advice guys, I decided to get the i3 2120, turns out that the 2120 and the i5 perform similar, I suspect that the i5 will be better at more intense multitasking, anyways I bought a gigabyte z77 MB which supports 2nd and 3rd gen Intel and corsair vengeance ram 1600mhz, so far so good, the performance has increased significantly.

If you're a gamer, next on your list should definitely be a new GPU.

Spencer2004 - that's not a good price for a Q6660 these days, it's a good chip but I only paid £80 for mine three years ago. In the current market there's better available for less.
