| Hi, Just thought I'd post this up in the hopes that someone will be able to fix my computer. Recently I my computer began constantly restarting. Usually this would happen while booting a game, changing the resolution, or doing just about any other "stressful" task. It usually won't happen while playing a game, but rather when starting one, or closing one. Since the problems started I have reformatted my computer and reinstalled the system, "cleanly" installed all the drivers, installed anti-virus/antispyware software and completed numerous scans, turned off Windows Indexing Service, turned off Windows Automatic Update Service as while as tried numerous registry tweaks etc. Due to the fact that almost nothing works software related, I decided it might be a hardware problem. I installed Everest UE 4 and found all temperatures to be in the normal range. I have also ran Memtest86 but to no avail. After not being able to fix my problem I decided that maybe my PSU wasn't "cutting-the -cake". It seems to run a high enough wattage (550) for my components (which I will list below) but the one thing that caught my eye was the fact that the amperage received on the 12V rails was not adequate for my 2 SLi 7600GS's. Supposedly each 7600GS requires 18A, but my PSU was only providing 16A. My main question is, is if my 12V rails aren't receiving a high enough amperage, could this be causing my computer to randomly restart with no BSOD? Thanks so much, and sorry for the length post. - Insomnia |

| Hi Insomnia. Short answer is yes, the lack of amps could be causing a reboot, regardless of whether or not the pc is running a 'stressful' task.

| Gigabyte 7600GS PCI-E 256 - GV-NX76G256D-RH Gigabyte MOBO - GA-M55SLI-S4 Rev 2.0 CoolerMaster eXtreme Power RP-550-PCAR ATX (I think, can't verify) I think thats just about all. I can't verify the PSU, but I'm quite sure that one has the same output specs as mine. Btw, thanks buddy :D |

| There will be a label on the psu quoting it's specs and model number. But i'll check with the info you've given. I'll come back to you as soon as i can.

| Had any luck? I think I'm just going to buy a nice 600W or above PSU that provides a decent amount to the 12V rails. Please reply though, the verification would be great |

| Apologies for the delay, took longer than I thought. Those are low ratings on the 2 12v rails for a 550w psu, mind you, I should've guessed from the single pci-e rail. Not that you need that for the card. Yeah, looks like new psu time I'm afraid.

| Did you manage to find out the amperage required for each 7600? I looked for quite a long time and was able to find 2 people quoting it as 18A. To be safe, I'm thinking I will get a PSU from a respectable company (TT, CoolerMaster, etc) that runs at 600W and around 20A - 24A on each 12V rail. Would you say thats a good idea? Thanks heaps for the help by the way. I posted on the www.techsupportforum.com, and only got 1 reply. |

| Sorry, didn't post that did I. I'd just got up. Looking through Gigabytes archives it's quoted as 18A. I'd be looking at Enermax's Liberty 620w (SLI). Or the 500w Liberty. They both offer 22a on each 12v line. The 500w offers upto 384w across both lines, the 620w, 432w. Both are easily powerful enough on the 12v rails for both your cards. Superb psu's as well.
