Hello all,

I hope this is the right part of the forum to post this. Well my brother is emigrating to Australia and I've got the job of selling the stuff he doens't really need to take; car, computer, clothes etc.

Anyway, I don't really know anything about computers but was wondering how much I should expect to get for this before I sell it on eBay, forums etc. I have asked my brother the value but he doesn't know too much about computers and it was a present for him.

I've been told it was a custom build and is about one month old, with these parts (I'll try my best to list what they are from the boxes I've been left with):

19 inches ASUS widescreen lcd screen
2GB OCZ Platinum DDR2-800 4-4-4-12 low latency
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ 2.5ghz dual core processor
M.S.I Motherboard (can't make out model as there is no box but has a ''MSI'' logo, manual lists many different models...)
Sapphire ATI Radon 3850 video card 256mb ddr3 666million transistors
250GB seagate hard disk 7200RPM 8MB CACHE S-ATA 2
Optaric DVD re writer S-ATA 2
Powersupply (can't find the box although my brother says he thinks it is 550w)
Case (there is no logo i can see, but it has a blue LED on the front and comes with 2 case fans which aren't fitted...)
Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard
Xpro 5.1 surround sound mainstation + subwoofer + 5 speakers
Windows Vista Home Premium DVD

Thanks alot!

Have a look an eBay and see what similar systems go for.

It's only worth what someone will pay for it.

Well I really don't know how to compare computers. I may have sounded like I knew what I was writing about but I was just typing up what said on the boxes. I know computers to me are quite complicated and I have no clue how to compare it to another one.

I was kind of hoping for a price and then that was it I would list it/set reserve for that. I want to be getting my moneys worth and not giving it away on the cheap.

Thanks

Have a look for something the same spec as yours, it's not difficult.

I think the problem you may have selling this PC, is the Processor AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ ... this is pretty slow now, compared to what is going in new machines.

My best estimate would be £350 - £400, bearing in mind it's second hand. Maybe a reserve of £250 - £300, but that may be too high to spark interest.

Here's some similar PCs on ebay, which will give you some idea :

Eh, I'd pay more than that. About £500. I'm not a AMD/ATI guy but that's not a bad system.

Wouldn'y fetch that on ebay in the UK m8 that's a thousand dollars !.... PC prices have fallen .... take a look at this spec :

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AMD-Athlonx2-4...QQcmdZViewItem

same CPU bigger HDD, slightly cheaper Graphics Card, but balanced by the HDD. Only thing missing is 19" Monitor so add about £100 and this totals £424.99 Brand New. Second Hand maybe £300.

Hmm, maybe not in the UK but over here I'd certainly buy it. Must be an inflation thing. I spent $1600 on my "new" computer and that system is better than it..granted I bought mine last summer, but still :p

Ok thanks everyone for the replies! I spoke to my friend at college today who knows quite a bit about computers and he recons the system is worth about £600 new and that the Sapphire Radon ATI video card and the 19 inches ASUS screen have just come out and are worth atleast £200.

Now I've got all this help from everyone I'll probably list it/set reserve at £450 and see if it would hopefully get higher.

Thanks

Good Luck with it, but remember, as Dave said "It's only worth what someone will pay for it" and on ebay the competition from New stuff is fierce.

Try if you can to sell it locally, either to friend or friend of friend or local paper/shop/notice board .... this will eliminate Postage costs as well, which for what you will be sending could be a hefty amount.
