Whats the worst pc you ever owned?
Mine has to be the one i got from pc world years ago, an e-machines job with a 1.3 ghz celeron cpu 60gb h/d with terrible internal graphics, couldnt play any half decent games on it, it was a overpriced nasty thing i realise now, buggy, and very slow, kept crashing due to driver issues, had more fun with my commodore 64 than i did with the e-machines so glad i got into building them myself
What was your worst pc guys, and why?
Are the worst pc`s the prebuilt package deals or your mate who just decided for the first time to build his own pc then asks you to sort it,
or are the worst just from one or two builders
like to hear your views

Mine was a Compaq tower, i cant remember the exact model but it was one of the ones with the colorful changeable front panels. I was getting by with a whole 64mb of ram running dreaded Windows ME.

I would have to say it is the one I now use . Gateway Gt5235E came with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. Got it from UBid never again came with no warranty. But only paid $375.00 for it. First problem The modem did not work right cane with the worlds slowest modem 1.1kb/sec.and that was on a fast day I seen it fall even lower. So I got a U.S.Robotics for the fix. Then for some reason it would not keep time and date need to replace the battery. Then every now and then it would turn off. Then after contacting Gateway and trying to find the problem. I kept finding problem after problem . The computer started turning it self off . and after some time it gave me error no system file.
After spending $25.00 I got a disk from gateway and that reloaded the system. all was good for two week and then right back to no OS. reloaded and on a forum I had found a guy told me of a memtest to check the memory he gave me a link that did not work so I found there addy and purchased the disk . ran that disk and some numbers came up with error . Told the guy and he said to remove one of the cards and run one at a time .will to make a long story short on the second memory card I found 125 errors after replacing the two 512 mb cards with four 1GB cards things have been working fine. Until the CPU fan stop. had to replace that to.
That was my way of learning how to rebuild this computer .I know most would of just purchased a new one but then what do you learn how to spend money. I felt that I could not do anything wrong if anything I would make sure it did not work.
You ask for it can anyone top it and still be using the computer.

This old P3 I had. It was 800 MHz, had like 128 MB of RAM and no graphics port (PCI only, and only 2 slots). It was just a PitA from the get go, and I ended up taking a baseball bat to it when I bought my replacement (An AMD 1 GHz with 8x AGP). Mind you, this was about 7 years ago, but still.

oooh worst pc ever. thats difficult since all ours are terrible
but i'll go with: a compaq tower.
100mhz 486 processor (133mhz when turbo'd. woohoo)
32mb ram
2gb hdd
no graphics card
13 inch moniter that had the front literally fall out.
and win95

the most advanced game it would handle without crashing was battle chess
when i got out of battle chess it would also crash. it would crash alot. i think someone in microsoft had to try to get win95 to be so shockingly craptacular

Not so much the PC, more the OS and software.

Try a new Time PC with Win'95 which failed to play any games any more after installing DirectX 6. (Someone wrote a DirectX removal tool!)

The NT4 OS that locked a colleague's laptop solid after removing the driver for a no-longer-needed bit of hardware.

The numerous bits of software that will not uninstall properly but will not allow you to reinstall or upgrade either.

The slowest PC? An Atari ST with 1Mb of memory, 8MHz processor (Motorola 6800) that booted from floppies. (No HDD) 12" 256 colour monitor. Cost? £1,000. At the time it was much faster than Intel based IBM PCs. It had a Mac-a-like OS called Gem? (IBM PCs were running DOS.)

This little baby was called a Superbrain 2 .... it had 2 big slots on the front, as you can see for 5.25" Floppy Disks and a lovely Green screen ... it was built like a Russian Sputnik.
