Considering it doesn't have a graphics card, it would have trouble driving a monitor.

4670? Not really. Spend more money on GPU, not CPU. Try a 7750+ BE or (if you can afford it) a Phenom II X3 720 - same speed as the E8400, significantly cheaper. Pair it with a 780G motherboard and upgrade that GPU to something better like at least a 4850 if not a GTX 260 or above.

Ok, well I'm on about a $650-$700 budget here. Plus, it's clear that I don't know much about computers, so I wouldn't know the first thing about building one from scratch. That setup I posted was one I created at ecollegepc.com. Aside from that, I've seen a ton of videos on Youtube showing people rip through games like you wouldn't believe with my setup and/or one weaker than mine, so I figured this would get the job done. Plus, aren't Intels generally faster than AMDs in high-end applications? My top priority isn't playing Crysis on Very High settings (although I'd like to play the rest in high+). My top priority is staying within a reason price limit considering the state in which our economy lies.
Sorry if I rambled lol. The Phenom II X3 720 really peeked my interest... I just don't know how or where to begin. ![]() By the way, that 4670 is extremely underrated. Nothing else like it for the price. |

Carbons just told you it is a junk card. It is. Well not junk, but compared to the rest, and if you want to game, it is junk. Not underated, just unrated. But basically anything you buy from a store is going to be expensive and contain a bad choice of components. And AMD is not less than Intel, it's purely a price / performance thing, and at the moment, AMD is better at that price range.

blargh i can't believe i lost my post
Summary: 4670 not great from price/performance, $15 more or so for 4830 which is much better, no such thing as a "brand" of CPUs being better than another brand, no such thing as dichotomy between demanding apps and not demanding apps (scales linearly), dumb to try to hit certain settings as any decent card will max out everything, 720 is good, you probably should check out the parts guide's budget build and then pay someone $50 or so to put it together and perhaps add that 720 on top of it if you have the extra budget (will work in that motherboard)

4670's an okay card for the mainstream gamer. Sure, it's no powerhouse, but it'll throw Medium on Crysis and high/ultra high on almost everything else. I should know, I've tested the hell outta mine.

Right, but there are several cards for the mainstream gamer, including old cards like the 7900GT, but that doesn't actually mean they're a good price/performance ratio. It's the cheapest 'worth it' card, but the 4830 beats it by a mile.

So I've found a fantastic price for a 9800gtx+ :D
And I'm buying the arctic freezer pro 7 so my question is, what vital mobo specification is required to install both of these and run 'em at the same time? and what specific mobo would you recommend? i'm looking at the p5q's, but i'm honestly not sure what i'm looking for. thanks in advance! |
