I just wanna start of by saying thanks to anyone who looks at this and cares to help..thanks

Here's my problem, I just built a new mid/high rig and i'm having a hell of a problem, windows xp locks up completely when i'm installing (crysis/etc) or even burning a cd. It locks up completely with no mouse movement/ ctrl/alt/del doesn't do anything, my only option is a hard shutdown. I've heard of other people having issues with the bfg 260 drivers having problems so I talked to BFG they said it was most likely a power supply issue cuz the 260 needs 38amps and my psu only supplies 35amps, but i thought that would be an issue during gaming and the other games I can get to install work fine (ie far cry 2.) and I unplugged the other hdd and the cd drives to free up some power to no avail. It's a pirated version of windows that works great on a couple other machines btw sp3 32bit. I upped the dram voltage from 1.8 to 1.9 and 1.95 but no luck still locks up. The hdd is a year old and it worked fine with the last windows install i had on it and a fresh format too. no luck and i haven't had a chance (or reason) to overclock any of it it as I can't even get crysis to work.

sys specs
q6600 on a gigabyte ep45-ud3p mobo
bfg 260 brand new drivers
plenty of gskill 6400 ram
agi 550w power supply

Any ideas? I'm stumped, thx

Actually, i have several windows xp cd keys that i are on dead systems, but the old cd's are nowhere to be found and this was just easier. If microsoft wants to come after me that's fine, but i don't think that is the issue.

I have never heard of that PSU. The 260 does not take that many amps, but if it's a bad PSU it may not be able to put 10A or so out.

I kinda dismissed the psu as the issue because the graphics card runs great while playing games under high load and doesn't lock up. But I just don't understand what the problem is, I also reinstalled windows w/ reformat and it still happens while installing things especially.

thx
