My very first build was a standard emachine for a friend that bought it from eBay but it came in separate components for a fairly cheap price (70 pounds i think) because the seller couldn't rebuild it (we all know its easier to take things apart then to build them) , i got a phone call around a year ago and was offered 20 pound to set up a desktop and that triggered me off.

The first computer I used was a Prime mini. They ground to a halt when about 30 users were logged on. They had less processing power than a 486 based PC and ran a text-based interface. The terminal was a teletype, later a mono screen.

IBM 5150...

The wonders of word perfect

Then an apricot F1...
<Link hidden. Register for free to see this link!>

Then a 'tiny' pc with a measly 450mhz processor that i killed running xp pro on for 2 years

Now on a slightly upgraded Dell optiplex GX50 (40gb hdd and 512mb ram otherwise as it comes) with xp pro....works a treat.

YOUR COMPUTERS

My first build was:

- ASUS K8V333
- AMD Athlon XP 2000+
- 2x256MB DDR266 (forgot the brand...)
- 80GB Maxtor Diamond+ HD
- 350Watt PSU (cheap brand...)

But the piece de résistance in that system was my Voodoo5 6000 which I skanked from 3dfx when I was made redundant in 2001. I was planning to stick all the parts in the case of my old Advent PC case but the graphics card was soo huge, I ended up having to buy another case as well...

Cheers:
Chris
