This is both a software and a hardware and a video question so apollogies if i'm in the wrong section, but what i'd like to know is, if i buy the new sony sr8 camcorder that records in avchd to a hard drive, what software/hardware do i need, i'm also having a new pc built so what do i need installed to be able to edit and re/record to dvd? to be able to play back on my ps3. I hope i don't need a blu-ray recorder as i understand they are very expensive.

AVC is a codec. You'll probably transmit the footage to your computer via FireWire. PS3 supports regular DVDs as well as Blu-Ray iirc, and even if it didn't you could just load it onto the hard drive.
