Default Best Ghosting Software?

Hi all!

It's been a while since my last post! Ahem, anyway...

after several good years, my install of Vista has been dying a slow death, with first the folder rename bug (still can't fix it, even after reg fixes!), and now WMP 11 needs to be killed before it'll work, and the auto-playlists still don't .

So, I'm going to start again with another install (3rd time lucky!), and instead of doing this more times, I want to use a Ghosting software to creat an image of my HDD so if it ever dies again, I can just whip it out and start from a good point.

Any suggestions? How's the one in Vista?

Acronis True Image or Norton Ghost.

Otherwise DrvImagerXP is not a bad choice if you want freeware. I have used it before. Only thing is it only works at the byte level, so you have to fully restore the backup before you can use it for anything. And the same size HD etc.

Thanks for the heads up, I've only ever found result for Norton Ghost until now.

Now I've had time to ponder, is it *worth it* to make ghost copies?

Another one joins the club I reckon I must have got 30 people now. lol.

As for ghosting, well, its debatable. If you are one who installs all there programs and then never touches it again, then yeah, ghosting is great.

But most people make changes over time, and how is ghosting any better, when you are going to have to make so many changes to the out of date ghost image, it would take little extra time to start from a fresh install.

Horses for courses.
