I have a Uniwill laptop or more specifically its an IBUYPOWER Battalion but it is probably just marketed to another company. Its the 259EN1 but it looks exactly like the 259EN3 and has the same parts so I would assume it is the same computer. However when I go to update the BIOS nothing happens. I think it might be a problem with the files. When I download the files it comes with a program called "flash", one called "AFUDOS", and a third called "259en.202". I run the "AFUDOS" program and it comes up with a black DOS screen with a bunch of commands listed, but any key you touch just exits out the screen. I then try to run the "flash" program and another black screen comes up for about second and then quickly goes away. I was wondering if there is another way to update the BIOS. I also heard that my laptop was the same as the Alienware m5500 laptop, and someone said that the BIOS version 2.03 works with mine but that is just what I heard. The reason why im doing this is because my USB ports are only being recognized as 1.1 ports. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

'if it aint broke, dont fix it'.. in other works if theres nothing wrong with your laptop dont risk destroying it by udating the bios. if you still want to however look for something in to bios menu called 'bios update' or something simular and enable it.

Well my USB ports are only being recognized as USB 1.1 ports and its very annoying. I tried virtually every driver, and driver updater software but have had no luck at all. I assumed it was the BIOS because over the summer I noticed that the very first screen that comes up when you power on your computer which usually displays the system information and various other stuff, was not the same as it had been previously. I didnt think anything of it, but now that I think back that may have been the reason for the USB problem.

Are you booting into DOS from a floppy and then running the flash program? That is the normal way. If you don't have a floppy you can also create a bootable DOS CD.

Whats the easiest way to create a bootable CD and which of the three files do you put on the CD if not all of them?

Download WinImage
Get the boot floppy images for 1.44 and 2.88Mb floppies and copy in all 3 files.
Save as an ISO image

Now you need something like Nero to burn that ISO to a CD. I think possibly WinDD will do that too, I haven't tried it on Windows. (DD is a Linux/Unix tool.)

Alright great I got WinImage but where do you get the floppy images. I would have to download them because I have a laptop with no floppy drive to be found.

Actually I found it nevermind. Does it matter which one you use, the 2.88 or 1.44?

Not really, the larger one just has more room for your stuff after you delete from the image any programs you don't need.
