64MB will back up about..well..not so much. Documents? Sure. Music? Not really, you'll get maybe 50 songs. It'd be a ripoff for $50 too - even the cheapest 512MB drives sell for under $20 and you can pick them up for pennies on the dollar when they're on sale (or at a computer shop - many have giant tubs full of small flash drives you can buy for cheap)

If you can properly boot into safe mode, you can probably fix this quite easily by just uninstalling major drivers until the problem is resolved then reinstalling them all. But anyway, here's a better solution:

8GB SD - if you have an SD reader, this is half the price and hundreds of times the capacity.

If not this (or anything related) will work. Might be safer too - it's likely that your card reader is a lot flakier than your USB hub.

If you don't want to wait for shipping, go check out some shops to get a USB flash drive that is bigger than that. It will come in handy later, they're always good to have. And no, you won't have to have it in there forever. Once he reinstalls the operating system, you can just plunk your files back onto the new OS and you'll be good.

I am not completely sure if a flash drive is what he said I needed as he talked to my wife and she does not completely remember. When I find out from him for sure I will post exactly what he was talking about in the forum.

Thanks for all the links and replies guys.

there is no difference from what I linked and a "USB memory key", if it plugs into a USB port it will work with anything and if it does that + stores data it is a flash drive

Okay guys I think I am done dealing with this guy. He was going to fix it for free, but it has had my laptop over a month, and he is now not answered phone messages and e-mails.

When I get it back from him maybe you guys can help me get it working again. I am at the point that I don't care if I lose everything, if it is not possible to save things in my memory. Maybe you can answer a few questions I have about few things.

In your sponsor link under "repair windows xp" there is a product called, regcure. If I was going try to save what is in my memory, is this what I should purchase?

It says 1 user 1 year. Does that mean you would need to repurchase it every year?

Also, how well does this product work?

One last thing. If I decide to just wipe everything out in my memory, how would I go about doing that?

I'm pretty sure we can repair this without resorting to software, as long as you actually have physical control of the laptop. We can likely get all the documents off the hard drive you want too. Get it back, and we'll figure out what to do from there.

Thank you very much Carbon.

When I gave him my laptop it was allowing me to get into the safe mode. I did uninstall a couple of things in the safe mode before I gave it to him, but did not try to use a memory stick while I was in the safe mode. The safe mode however was all I could get into. No internet at all.
