That's fine - this'll give you time to figure out what exactly you want to backup, anyway, which should save you a little money in getting the right capacity USB stick.

Plan from now is get the laptop -> boot into safe mode, backup all the files, then do a full reformat and reinstall. That should fix everything.

I am leaving for the weekend within the hour to go bowl a tournament in Houston, Tx. I will try getting my laptop back from him on Monday. I am guessing that I will need to store everything that I want to save on the memory stick all at one time, so I can wipe the laptop clean, to do a full reformat and reinstall. Is this correct?

Also, I assume you mean by "backup", the storing of the items onto the memory stick?

I was thinking of going ahead and ordering this 8gb memory stick below:

That one should work. You're correct on the steps - you'll dump your data on the stick, reformat then just drag it back when the reformat and reinstall is done.

I assume you have a Windows disk? Don't want to reformat and then not have a OS :P

My wife picked up my laptop today, and he told her that I needed a DDR1 chip, and that he had been having trouble finding one.

Does anyone in this forum know what this is, and where I can find one?
